Yes, I’m still a Road Warrior

Yes, I’m still here

Wow, it’s been a rough couple of months for me. Nothing major or traumatic has happened. I just completely lost motivation. The cold weather was ticking me off, and my work schedule has gotten a bit busier in the past few weeks. I had three late night meetings in a row this week. My ankle has been bothering me more and more on a daily basis. I have an appointment with the good foot doctor after the race. I went in a few weeks ago and found out that I have very “loose” ligament (or tendons?) in both my ankles. This is a result from the billions of times I sprained them both during my high school sports career playing basketball, volleyball, and softball (Go Wildcats!). I was given two braces, but haven’t worn them because they give me nasty blisters.

I did manage to get in a 12-mile run last Saturday with a few of the Road Warriors. I ended up having to walk a short distance on our second six-mile modified loop around Reed’s Lake. Thanks, Terry, for sticking with me. You were very encouraging to me and I never once felt like you were lecturing me.

I had a ChiRunning class last Saturday, which sort of helped me turn things around. It was a four-hour class and taught us the optimal posture alignment, along with the proper lean in order to run more efficiently. It’s a great concept and I encourage anyone who reads this to go check it out at chirunning.com. Like Kristin mentioned, there are a lot of little things you can start working on that will make a great difference in how efficient you run.

I got fitted for my fashion show outfit at Gazelle Sports earlier this week as well. I’m wearing lots of pink! I have a pink winter coat, but most of my wardrobe is blacks and blues. It’s a nice change. It’s also nice to have a complete matching outfit. I have maybe three “official” pieces of clothing for running. I run mostly in t-shirts and cheap shorts from Old Navy. I’m excited to have a pair of shorts with the underwear already sewn in.

I’m running the 5/3 RBR course tomorrow along with the other Road Warriors and Run Gazelle. We’re meeting tomorrow morning for an open-to-the-public run at the downtown YMCA. I have to say that running with a group is THE way to go. Even if you plug in your iPod, the motivation and energy around the group is more than enough to keep you going. I’m also very excited about running the course. I’m having some anxiety over The Hills that everyone keeps talking about. I usually don’t like to know what to expect on a race, but I don’t want to be totally shocked on May 10 around mile nine or so (right, Terry?).

I saw that it’s going to be sunny and in the 60s tomorrow. FINALLY! It was around this time of year last year when I started out on my first run EVER and now I know why. It feels great to get outside in fresh air with the warmth of the sun on my shoulders. I’m hoping that tomorrow is the first of a long string of days where I don’t have to layer my clothing.

Hope to see many new faces at tomorrow’s run!!

Hey there! It’s like we are all coming out of under our rocks, eh? No worries…we’ll get through it! I’ll be there tomorrow…if I do the entire course, it will be a tough stretch - plus I’m on a time frame - have to be in Lansing by 1pm…if you think about it there is not much time to run 15 miles, get home, get ready and drive to Lansing…AND be on time. Ah! Sure, we can keep each other company…my knees are killing me from last night, so depending on how I feel, I may be slow and/or not do the entire course. If I didn’t have to be somewhere at 1pm, I’d for sure be doing the entire thing…I just know I can’t finish in time :)
