…Welcome 2008!

2008 has arrived!  If the counter on the bottom of the main Riverbank webpage is correct…we have 128 more days to go before the race!  In the grand scheme of things, that is not a very long time.

I did get a good workout in this morning–3 miles total, but only running 1.65 of it smack in the middle there.  I am really really REEAAAALLLY trying to keep it easy right now, following (more or less) the beginner training schedule I’m sure many of you have seen by now.  I cross-trained later by hoisting our too-big-for-the-living-room Christmas tree out of the now stagnant water in the stand.  I don’t know why I think I should do those things on my own when I can wait a little and have help.  If I hadn’t had to pause for a moment to make sure no children or dogs were in my way of the door, it would have gone better, I’m sure.  But as I had to make that pause and accidentally let the tree drop down too low, I now have some sort of gooey fir pitch from the trunk stuck on my carpet.  I’m attempting hot water soaks, but if anyone has a better suggestion, let me know.  :)  The tree is out now, and the giant heavy totes of holiday items have been put back in their out-of-the-way storage area.  So that can count as my upper-body workout.

Hope you are all feeling great as the new year has begun.  I’m looking forward to a year getting to know my fellow road warriors better and hopefully (keep those fingers crossed for me!) a full 365 days of injury-free running opportunities!

Enjoy the snow!

And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms… The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. THOMAS JEFFERSON, letter to William S. Smith, 1787, in S.
