Time to taper!
Posted by Deborah Pieri under: Deborah Pieri .
I love the week before a race. . . . the taper week. Saturday we do only 10 miles! Tonight I headed to Reed’s Lake for what I thought was a tempo run. Coach Woj said go easy around the lake. After a very long day, his words were music to my ears! But I did not go easy. I ran hard with another Deb and managed to have a wonderful conversation as well. I had this intense satisfaction when we arrived back at the library. This feeling of almost relaxation enveloped me. . . . like the hard work is done, we are prepared, now we just have to do this thing! Thanks Deb for pushing me and sharing your thoughts. It was awesome! Now I just have to hope I don’t trip and fall at the fashion show! I’m not always very graceful. . . . Lord knows I’ve fallen enough times running!
Here’s to the taper!

You are READY, Deb!!! You’ve been a great inspiration and an awesome Road Warrior Teammate! Glad you had a good run yesterday–see you tomorrow for the run from the Y!

Hi Deb;
I am finally going to respond to your blog(s). Anyone else out there is more than welcome to listen….
I have known you (and Tim) for at least…well, longer than I care to think. When we talk, (or should I say ARGUE), at times, it feels as if I have known you all of my life. We have shared joys and sorrows, laughter and tears. The times I have always truly loved though are the ones where the 4 of us are just “sittin’ ’round, talkin’ ’bout nothin’”. I think that is what I find so special about our relationship, that I can be who I am around you and Tim. I think that is what true friendship is. I thank you for your friendship.
I also want you to know that you are my hero. You have survived CANCER. You have went through a physical and emotional trial that I never want to face. From the day you were diagnosed, to this day, you have remained an inspiration to your husband, to your children, to your friends and to me. I will never understand what you went through, I will never understand the demons that you face, but I truly looked to you and still look to you for “grace.” I have heard it said that we are saved by grace alone, and at the very lowest times of my life you have helped save me.
So I want to thank you for everything, for your cancer, for your struggle, for your passion, for your laughter, for your love, for your tears, and of course, for your chocolate chip cookies.
You are my HERO!
Love,
Pat K.
p.s. However, you are and always will be OLDER than me and SLOWER than me. xxoo
