Thirty Five

Posted by Matt Stargardt under: Matt Stargardt .

Last Saturday, I turned 35.  Its an odd age.  When I mention it to someone older than 40 they say something like “What….. only 35????”   Mention it to a 20 something and they say the same thing.

Thanks.

What better way to spend a birthday than being dragged up and down the hills of O’brien Drive?  The effort of getting up and down the hills wiped me out for the day.  I wasn’t sore…just tired.

They say that 65 is the new 55……so following that logic 35 is the new 25.   Funny,  the new 25 doesn’t feel like the original 25.    The lines next to my eyes used to disappear when I stopped smiling.  The original 25 didn’t have to worry about drinking too much caffeine or worry about ulcers.  The original 25 could count on a good nights sleep and an afternoon nap every day….and sleep in on weekends.   Original 25 charged up hills, pushing heart-rate monitor to its max,  new 25 thinks about the echo-cardiogram.  Original 25 lifted weights and bench-pressed.  New 25 lifts a toddler for weight training.  Ironically, the original 25 was was ten minutes slower for the riverbank and a good 10 pounds heavier.  At least the new 25 gets a couple more minutes grace for a Boston time.

I think new 25 could beat old 25 in any race, as long as new 25 did not throw out his back from an unexpected sneeze.

New 25 is heading out to look at sports cars.

Great post Matt! Funny to look at it that way. If I told 35 year old Steve that 43 year old Steve was running the Fifth Third, he wouldn’t believe it. By the way, have you seen the new Dodge Challenger?!

I turned 30 in December. I think it’s by far the weirdest age for me so far (unless you include ages 12-14, but that an entirely different topic). Happy Birthday!! Vroom vroom!

Welcome to the new age bracket!!! I will hit 35 in mid-June, so it’s good to get your perspective so I’m well-prepared. ;) What a warrior–celebrating your birthday on O’Brien with us all! Happy Birthday!

You’re as old as you feel. Somedays that means adult diapers and others find me as immature as I’ve ever been! Happy birthday dude!
