The sick, full and happy season

Posted by Bob Estes under: Bob Estes .

This was a good week to cut back a bit on mileage. I have been fighting back a cold for the past week that has decided to take up residence my bronchial passages. This was one of the challenges to getting out of bed on Saturday morning and running with the Run Gazelle group. This was my first experience running with Run Gazelle. I found them to really cool people and very supportive and encouraging. I ran the 8 miles from Aquinas through Gas Light village around Reeds Lake and back to Aquinas. Some of us spent some time over coffee getting to know each other. I’ve been running less than a year and I already have like three ‘running families.’

I am sorry to have missed the run on Sunday. I really wanted to attend but it didn’t mesh well with planned holiday gathering that same afternoon. I hate to say it but I am really looking forward to the end of the holidays so that I can be a bit more free and spontaneous with my running and workout times. Bah Humbug!

This week is momentous for two reasons. My oldest daughter turned 16 today and tomorrow is the one-year anniversary of the start of my weight loss and return to physical activity. I still remember 16 like it was yesterday. Now I have a child that’s 16! Doesn’t seem possible! It’s ironic that we celebrate birthdays in our home - by going out to eat! Mmmm, can’t get enough to eat now-a-days!

As for the anniversary of losing a person in poundage, I don’t miss the weight! It was more or less the anchor I had tied around my neck that was going to send me to an early grave. I’ll mark my first anniversary of this new journey by making plans to trot through EGR tomorrow!

Maybe I’ll see you at the Christmas Lights Tour run? hope so!
