Thanks Diane…

For showing me how to get back to the Y! I’ll say it again about the Run Gazelle group, they are so helpful. I was able to firstly discover the source of some mystery pain on the top of my foot Saturday. There was a foot doctor on hand who had the brilliant advice to lace my shoes in a different way. Huh, who would have thought of that? Sometimes the common sense of this group amazes me. I mean I thought of nine million horrible injuries I must have. My shoe laces were the last thing on my mind. One simple re-lace, problem solved. I honestly think I’m as bright as a small appliance bulb sometimes.
It was fun to see my Road Warriors and compare notes. I ran with Bob for a couple of blocks, great to see he’s back at it and his doctor has given him the OK to step it up. I tore off after a guy in blue that had a good stride to follow. I did two miles with him and never quite caught him. I noticed on my little watch we were turning about a 7:30 mile. That’s why my face was all red and I couldn’t catch my breath. A little fast for me at the moment.
Then I hooked up with a fun group chatting gear and gadgets till our first water stop. They on the other hand were going 9:30’s, just a little to slow for me. Why do I feel like Goldilocks? That’s when I caught up with Diane. Her pace was just right. What a knowledgeable friendly runner. She not only let me tag along, but filled my noggin with race information and training tips. I’m training for the 25k, something Diane has done a lot. Her next race is a 50k! Yes, that’s 31 miles. I nearly swallowed my tongue. It’s not her first either friends. Toward the end she took me off the Run Gazelle route to show me where the race path goes through the city, talked about the amazing crowd and told me what to look out for. What a motivating ten miles. Thanks again Diane. If you haven’t yet, join Run Gazelle.
Despite what I do for a living, I can be a little shy. Just jumping into a pile of runners I don’t know can be a little intimidating. If you’re like me, don’t let that keep you from this great learning experience. Just run up to someone and say,”I’m lost”, or,”What’s your pace?”, “Can I run along for a while?”, “Would you hold my hair while I puke?” They’re all more than eager to help and share their collective knowledge.
I have incurred another strange pain you may be able to help me with. I’m golden when I’m running in good form, but if I push off on my right big toe just right it’s excruciating. Like something is in there. I can run my fingers along the area and it doesn’t hurt or look like I have a splinter or gun shot like it feels when I run. I’ve been over it with a magnifying glass, tweezers and an emery board. It only hurts when it bares weight and I step on it just right. Any ideas. I may have to break down and go to the doctors.
How cool is it to see some sun and a little bare pavement?!

Steve, I thought I saw you on Saturday morning. I was the shy ones too. How far did you go on Sat? I ran 12 but the last 3 was a really slow. I work for Gordon Food Service. A bunch of us run during lunch all year long with the pinnicle being the 25K. Today, for example, a moderate turnout of 4 for a gutsy 5 miles. Pavement is our friend as one of the “veteran” runners fell 2 times yesterday. He did not get hurt. Good Luck training

I got ten in and besides the weird toe thing, felt great! Make sure to say hey at the next event.
