Ten Miles And All Smiles
Posted by Steve Kelly under: Steve Kelly .
I promised I wouldn’t try to hard to rhyme but, there it is. I didn’t get a chance to talk about my weekend long run with guests in town so here it is! I got up Saturday feeling well rested after a great night’s sleep. I think I fell asleep in my chair by 9! Yes, it’s official, I’ve become my dad…I loaded on my newest cold weather running gear and headed to the Field house to meet the group. My car said it was 5 outside!
I saw Terri and Chas and did some stretching. I wanted to get a legitimate 10 miles in with the group. I may have gone that far last week but, as I mentioned, I lost track counting on the track. Terri hooked me up with Mark, a marathoner who’s coming back from injury. Another fast friend with Run Gazelle. We agreed to about a 8:30 pace and started the loop. It was a beautiful morning and the roads were clear. That was amazing. I think it’s been since August since there hasn’t been snow and ice on the road.
We soon settled into a comfortable pace. With the conversation and challenge I hardly noticed it being cold. We both fogged on starting our watches (what kind of runners forget that?) so we weren’t sure of our time but, we were cooking. We even ran a couple miles with Terri, Chas and Coach Woj. I can tell you they were going faster that 8:30! We ended up having one of those conversations only runners have. Any time you can share stories and laugh about chafing, you must be a runner! Thank God for Body Glide…
All of a sudden we were back at the college. What a great time. I was ready for it to be over I can assure you. I gave a good fist pump at the end, job well done. Thanks Mark for your help!
Sunday we met at the library in East. The Road Warriors were represented by Deb, Shirl, Terri and me. Terri and I ran together for the most part. After a late night and the 10 miles the previous day I was suffering! I was sweating like a pig and sucking air the whole time but, we got it done. Remind me to be a good boy the night before the Riverbank Run will you?!
Things continue to progress for me. I’m a little tight today but other than that things feel good. If you get a chance to see Spirit of the Marathon, do it! Road Warrior Mike and I went last week and it’s a real eye opener. I’m not sure I’m ready to sign up for that commitment, one thing at a time. May 10th is coming, so far so good.
One Comment so far...
