San Diego Bound

Hello All,
After several high mileage weeks, I found myself experiencing some nasty heel pain. It started after a 15.5 mile run two weeks ago. I was finally forced to back off a little this week. I didn’t run Mon-Wed, although I did do pilates and a spin class and I walked at lunch. By Thursday I was climbing the walls and had decided that I would attempt to run. I taught a powerflex class at 4:30 and then set off to meet rungazelle in EGR. It was great to see fellow road warriors Nick, Matt, Kristen and of course Mike and Terry. I wasn’t sure how I would do with a five mile tempo run with the heel aching. I ran the 2 mile warm-up with Kristen and enjoyed chatting and catching up with her life. The tempo went well. . . I had good energy and kept focusing on the things I had learned from the chi running workshop last Saturday. I was very happy with my time, and felt so happy and content as I was driving home. My heel hardly bothered me, but I iced it just to be safe. It didn’t bother me at all at school today! I’m hoping the icing and days off helped.
I am bummed out that I will not be able to run the RB course with rungazelle and fellow road warriors tomorrow morning from the Y. Tim and I and our youngest son, Joe will be leaving early tomorrow heading to San Diego to see our 19 year old son, Sam graduate from boot camp. The time passed so very quickly. Despite a bout with pnuemonia Sam made it. I am so very proud of him, and am counting the days till I see him! I now have a son who is a Marine. I was not happy when he told me he had enlisted. I cried and felt fear and uncertainty. Then I started to work through it. . . . a lot of times when I was running I would pray for strength and understanding. . . . for the ability to respect and accept Sam’s decision. Tim and I are not exactly your typical military parents. . . . not even remotely. It has not been easy for us to understand or accept Sam’s decision. Mike and Terry have been so great. jAs former Marines, they have helped me to understand a lot. Fellow road warrior Steve gave me the name of a great book that was most enlightening! I even gave it to my parents to read. Thanks again Steve.
So here we are packing . . . getting so excited! I will run 15 miles along the Pacific Ocean tomorrow afternoon with Tim and Joe, and I will think of all of you who are also running and training for this race. I often wonder if anybody really reads these blogs. I hope so and I hope that you can identify with some of us. We are after all, connected. We are all on the same journey. We all have the same goal of running a good race. So fellow gazelle members. . . I will miss you this week and next ( we won’t get into town until the afternoon.) You are all so welcoming and supportive! What a terrific organization. . .with a wonderful coach! Have a great run tomorrow!
Blessings,
Deb

Deb–congrats to Sam from your fellow Road Warriors! You are great parents–even if you were scared and uncertain, I cannot imagine you being anything but supportive for him. I hope your heel is feeling better–I think I officially have plantar fasciitis–but I managed to get 13 miles in today! I think the biking has helped my heel–cross-training is awesome! We all missed you today–but who can beat a 15 miler along the Pacific!!!! I’m jealous!

I’m happy for your family that Sam has made it through boot camp and I’m sure he’s a great Marine. Hope you have a great visit and run time in Cali!
