Safety Tip! Run w/Identification

Posted by Shirl Kohl-Martin under: Shirl Kohl-Martin .

Hi Again,

I hope whatever event you may be training for is going well!  And of course I hope you are either training for the River Bank Run, or you are at least planning to come downtown Grand Rapids to show support and join us for the festivities!  It truly is an awesome event!

I thought I would share a safety tip with you that I have been doing for several years when I run.

Most of the time I run with other people and I don’t really think too much about receiving help should something happen to me, such as a fall, or whatever.  But particularly when I am running alone, I think it is especially important to run with some form of identification.  I don’t run with my driver’s license because if I lose it, it is a pain to get another one, plus it would have my personal information on it that I don’t necessarily want shared with the world…no offense.

So what I use for my personal identification card is my health insurance card.  That way, if something should happen to me, others know WHO I am and my health insurance card and information would help assist medical staff in getting me the proper treatment as fast as possible.

Now, I am not anticipating that something will happen to me, but if something should, I hope this will speed up the medical treatment plan.

So, be safe, especially if you are running in a lot of snow like we are now, and ALWAYS RUN WITH SOME FORM OF IDENTIFICATION!

Hoping your 2008 is going great!

Shirl
