Ok, That Kicked My Butt
Posted by Steve Kelly under: Steve Kelly .
Today’s Run Gazelle adventure left John Ball in a driving rain and about 40 degrees. Nice! Seriously, who has running clothes for that? I’ve heard tales that a few River Bank Runs have been in such lovely weather so I thought it wise to go. I can think of lots of words to describe my run, wise isn’t one of them.
I’m not sure it was the weather or dinner last night, but what a battle. I hooked up with a couple groups and just couldn’t settle my pace. The hills on the way to the lake were hammering me too. I even had to stop once because I got dizzy. I don’t think dizzy is a good sign. I pealed off and decided to do 12 as apposed a second loop of the lake for 14. Although I don’t second guess that decision, I do wish I could have gone farther. They can’t all be wonderful runs I guess, that sure wasn’t for me! I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck. Thank God for ibuprofen and frozen peas.
I did get some priceless looks when I was filling the gas tank on the way home. I’m drenched with a steaming bald head at the pump. I guess it’s hard on days like today for non-runners to understand us. I guess it’s hard on days like today for me to understand us.
We went up North for a couple days this week to Great Wolf Lodge. They aught to change the name of that place to, “You kids really owe us for this”, but we had a ball. The stairs on the way to the water slides are good cross trainers too. I got up Thursday morning and had a great run along the big lake. What a beautiful morning and fun run. Not to long ago I wouldn’t have taken the time to drag my stuff along and make the effort. Now running is just a habit I’m blessed to have.
Great to see all your smiles this morning despite the elements. Road Warriors we are almost there! I have to go re-freeze these peas…

Lol–Steve–great job today! I think today kicked all of our butts! I made fellow RW Julie do 14–not sure she was thrilled with me. I was really blonde and hadn’t realized we were supposed to do TWO laps around the lake, even though the map said TWO LAPS AROUND THE LAKE.
Guess I didn’t look at that part in time. Didn’t realize it until we hit 7 miles on my Garmin and I said, “Weird, we just now got to the halfway…hmmm…uh, Julie, I think we have some miles to make up.” So we did some squirrely extra miles in there but we did 14!!!! I was not feelin’ the love on this week’s run though! And the poor people in line when I went to get coffee–I think they looked at me the same way people looked at you at the gas station–only they probably got to smell me, too.
Too bad!

Steve
I admire you for two reasons: 1, for voluntarily having your butt kicked on Saturday morning, and 2) for running at Great Wolf Lodge. I’ll now admit that I was a no-show on Saturday because we, too, were at GWL. But I did no running. I ate a lot and drank some beer and kinda gold-bricked it. I never even thought about bringing running stuff! Getting a run in at GWL? You are TRULY The Man!

Hang in there! You’re doing great!
I’m gonna join RG after our Road Warrior days are over, so I look forward to seeing more of you and any other RWs who will continue with RG.

You’re doing awesome Steve!! I’ve hit Walgreens before on my way home from a run, and I get some odd looks also.
