No More Doughnuts
Posted by Terrence York under: Terrence York (Coach) .
What a great turn out for last night speed workout at the YMCA. Everyone did a great job. I am inspired by each and every road warrior. The dedication, motivation, and the willingness to train and be able to run in the 5/3 River Bank Run either for the first time or for the 11th consecutive time. Not many people can say they are training for a 25k race or even attempt to compete or even complete the 25k. If your injured right now don’t get frustrated. I know it is a bummer when everyone else is training and you can’t do much but you will heal and be able to train. There is still time to heal and be ready for the 25k.
Now for my daily routine, I get a cup of coffee and a Hostess apple pie or a doughnut for my breakfast just about every work morning. I thought to myself if Matt can run 3 miles every day for 365 days straight I know I can stop the doughnuts every morning. I just have such a sweet tooth and it is so convenient. I know I have it in me to stop. I chewed tabacco for about 15 years and just stopped for Lent three years ago and never went back. So no more doughnuts for me until after the 5/3 River Bank Run. Hopefully it will help my run time too.

I’ll join you for a tabacco doughnut in the beer tent after the race!

How about just a beer and one of those after race cheeseburgers.

Do muffins and scones count? Ok, seriously–great job on giving up the doughnuts until the RB!! Now I’m feeling like I should be making some really structured commitment to myself like you and Matt!

How about Kelbasa my friend? You know it doesn’t mix well with running. Especially running outside!

Finding the occasional straw of truth awash in a great ocean of confusion and bamboozle requires intelligence, vigilance, dedication and courage. But if we don’t practice these tough habits of thought, we cannot hope to solve the truly serious problems that face us and we risk becoming a nation of suckers, up for grabs by the next charlatan who comes along.
