Julie is a mother of two and began running in ‘07, two months after her second child. She set a goal with her mother to run the Fifth Third River Bank Run 5K. Two weeks prior to race day her son, 21mo, was bitten by a dog and required plastic surgery to repair his face. Although all she wanted to do was to hold him, she found his only desire when returning home from the hospital was to shoot some hoops with dad. Julie found her son’s strength and resiliency encouraging. She says the tragedy seemed to affect her more than her son – if he had the strength to get up from such trauma and only have the desire to play, she figures that she could be strong enough to train for the Fifth Third 25K.
