Love The Garmin!
Posted by Steve Kelly under: Steve Kelly .
For someone that struggles with pace this bad boy is a must! They sure don’t give the things away, but I think for me it was worth the investment. I did most of my long run Sunday by myself, for the first time in a long time. I was able to keep four fields of view open; distance, pace, time and heart rate. You can customize them for your preference. I was able to dial in my pace consistently for like the first time ever for me. That gives me confidence for the 10th and I can’t put a price on that.
I haven’t installed the software or quite figured out all it’s abilities, but I’m impressed. If you have a runner in your life and gift time is nearing…get online! They’ll surely show their appreciation. Hope that helped all of you in negotiations to get one!
I hooked up with some Road Warriors for our usual Sunday run afterwards and finished up strong. Thanks coach Mike and Terri for staying with my pace and for all the advice and words of encouragement. It means so much. When I think of where we were back in December at our first meeting and now, wow, we’ve all come a long way. All that snow, week after week. The bonks. The frozen peas and Motrin. The breakthroughs. The new friends.
I hear you Matt about fearing injury with less than two weeks to go. My hip is sore today, like it needs to crack. I’m taking it easy today and don’t think it’s much, but man it gets in your head after all this training.
Let your friends know they’re working on a way to have me broadcast part of the race from the course. I’m sure I’ll contribute little more than panting! We start just after 7 on Saturday the 10th on NewsRadio WOOD 1300. Yes, they’ll cover the real race primarily! I’m just there as a staff member to add some lighthearted (and lightheaded) observations. Tune in!
Blessings to all of you training for the big day. Road Warriors the time is almost here.

My husband bought me a Gamin for Christmas and I totally love it now that I can run outside and watch my pace. I haven’t figured it all out either, but I love watching the pace and pushing myself faster. I would like to eventually buy a bike cadence sensor and do some road races also.

Gosh darn I wish I could tune in during the race on the course to hear your observations and the sound of the wind flying behind you as you whiz on thru the course! That would be “whiz” like going really fast, Steve.
I’m so glad you got your Garmin–set your little annoying alarms for your race and you are all set! (And Maria–I have the bike cadence sensor for my cross-training–I LOVE IT!!!!)
Now if we could just figure out how to make sure DEB gets her Garmin for her June birthday…

I love my gremlin! It’s always there to tell me how slow I really am!! Seriously, that thing haunts me. I’ll be cruising around work and look down to see my pace and how far i’ve gone. Freakin gremlin!!!!!

Hey Steve. . . Tim and I almost called you to see if you wanted to run with us yesterday. We thought about hooking up with the road warriors, but I had so much to do yesterday that we needed to run right after church. We ended up running to Reed’s Lake and then back to the westside. I would have loved to have your Garmin telling me how fast I was going! Shelly. . . I’m still working on Tim for the Garmin. I keep hinting. . . I am ever so subtle!

Well dude, from the days of 4 X 4’s, and mmmm beer? You have come a long way. Hope all is going well with your training. Less than 2 weeks baby! I will call you when I arrive in GR! See you at the refreshment table, before 12:00, on Saturday, May 10! Later, your Saginaw connection.
