I HATE WINTER!

Posted by Mike Dopke under: Mike Dopke (Coach) .

Will this blasted winter end already?!? I am so flipping tired of the cold air. Where the heck is that Heat Miser anyway? Do the Cold Miser and Jack Frost have him tied up at the North Pole? Help us Mrs. Clause! I am beginning to think Stargardt needs to update his closing countdown to 18 more cold runs. That ought to put us at Fourth of July weekend. Sorry to come at ya a little heavy on the Rankin Bass today, but I have had just about all I can take of these sub arctic runs. It looks like we are going to have another one tomorrow.

I am happy to be running again though. My two-week restriction is up and I have a new and much less rancid cast that I am able to wash. The liner is made of waterproof Gore-Tex and instead of cotton. This helps greatly with the odor problem that I was having with the first one. The several hours of cardio I was doing were starting to take their toll. I felt sorry for the poor lady who had to cut it off me Wednesday morning. She said she had smelled worse, but the tears in her eyes told me she was trying to be polite.

I have had a couple decent speed workouts this week with RunGazelle getting ready for the Irish Jig next Saturday. I could tell that I had not been running fast for a while. My lungs were burning a bit Tuesday night from doing half-mile repeats a full speed. Last night we did a 3-mile threshold run, which was easier for me because it was a little bit slower. I am sore today but it’s a good sore, and hopefully it will pay off next week. I just hope we don’t have to race in parkas and snow pants.

Hey Mike, just between you and me, I think the Heat Miser was last seen at an all-inclusive resort somewhere in the Caribbean…so after a few pina coladas, I think he’s forgotten about his centuries-old battle with his brother the Cold Miser. I tried to find him when I was down there, but I think he had just left the island we were on briefly. Sorry–I really tried for you. Until it warms up, find your smile and suck it up! :) I told you all a few weeks ago that Matt was not counting those “cold runs” very accurately!

On the bright side–congrats on being back on the running trails. Maybe it is your extraordinary speed that is keeping it so cold around here–all that whoooosh as you go by is keeping the wind high and the temps low…ever think of that?
