Fast Like a Marsupial

Posted by Terrence York under: Terrence York (Coach) .

The title is from comedian Kevin Polleck imitating Christopher Walkens on the Bob and Tom show.

Don’t know why but everytime I do speed workouts I always think of this saying.

At first when I started training for the 5/3 River Bank Run last year I really didn’t attempt to to join run gazelle for any speed workout until toward the end of the training for the 5/3 River Bank Run.  I had know idea at the time that speed workout would make me faster.  I know I really didn’t get faster until after the race last year.

I started to do the speed workout last summer with run gazelle every week until the Grand Rapids Marathon.  At this time I kinda felt like I was getting faster but wasn’t really feeling it.  After the marathon I took a couple of weeks off.  Then I started to do speed workouts indoors with Coach Mike D.  at the YMCA.  Then we held our weekly speedwork outs with the road warriors.  Fellow runners were telling me that I have gotten so much faster from last year.  I knew I was getting faster but didn’t really realize it until we started our group runs and I can keep up with the faster runners for about 3 to 5 miles now.

I am a big believer in speed workouts more so now than about a year ago. A big thanks to Coach Woj from run gazelle and Coach Mike D for making me fast like a Marsupial.
