Farewell 2007…
Posted by Shelly under: Shelly Batterbee .
Greetings! I feel like I’ve been on hiatus for the past two weeks…between being sick and the holidays, time has flown past. I have slacked on my workouts (Julie–I can see your 8 days and raise you by 5 more…), worn myself down and deprived myself of any good sleep. So today I made an effort to end my year right with a good workout. I did a combo of walking and running, trying to be mindful of my body and know that even though I may feel good in the moment, slow and steady is what will keep me going through to complete that 15.5 miles I am so looking forward to!
Resolutions do not need to wait for January 1st. Get out there today. Take a walk, go snowshoeing (I think we have the 4″ of snow they say you need!), go sledding or ice skating with your kids. Anything that gets you moving. Call it cross-training!
It can be difficult to put yourself first. At least that is the case for myself. So this year, starting today and spilling into next year, which is less than 11 hours away, I am putting myself at least in a place of importance. I don’t have to call it first since that is just too hard to do, but I can tell myself I am important enough to put way up there on my own list. Exercising daily, whether running, walking, sledding, skating, biking–anything, will be a part of 2008 for me. I deserve to be healthy. My kids deserve for me to be healthy. Would I love to shed some pounds? Of course I would. But what I’ll love more is to be around for my family and friends, stay away from the holiday colds and flu I’ve seen going around (myself included), and gift myself the energy to do the things I want to do.
See you in the new year.
P. S. To my fellow Road Warriors who are partaking in the Resolution Run today–I hope it’s a great one! I’m cheering you on in spirit!!! I did at least get a run in today! ![]()
