Facing the elements

Posted by Terrence York under: Terrence York (Coach) .

I put on four layers of shirts on and one pair of tights along with some wind pants over the tights.  I wasn’t going to wear the wind pants but as I was going from my car to the field house my legs were very cold in just those few minutes that it took me to get inside the field house.  I took Matts advice about layers and wore two pairs of gloves.  I don’t do very well in my long runs if my hands and ears get cold.  Thanks Matt for your advice on cold weather attire.

We ran ten miles but it felt like we ran about fifteen miles in sand due to all the snow and ice on the roads.  When we finished our run a fellow runner who who helped me train for the GR marathon put his shirts inside the van when we went for coffee and when we came the shirts had frozen.

It always amazing to see a big group of runners run in such brutal conditions.  I swear it was like we were running in Artic Circle weather conditions.  I tip my hat to all the runners who braved the weather conditions.

Yes, it was quite the weekend for running! I was layered as well. I put a pair of fleecy socks over my running gloves. Matt had talked about it in his blog. My hands didn’t get cold at all. I’m sure I looked pretty goofy, but I really wasn’t cold, other than my nose and cheeks! We made it through one of the toughest running weekends of the year! Yeah!

Thanks for the post. I read it Tuesday night, when I was dressed for running but did not want to get out in the cold. I went out and had a great run, thanks for the inspiration. I am reading it again tonight because I have the same “like the warm” attitude. I am headed out though…
