Brrrrrrrrrr

Posted by Bob Estes under: Bob Estes .

It was a frigid 14 degrees Fahrenheit. My nose was frozen before I take my first few strides and I couldn’t feel my fingers or toes. I stepped out onto the trail behind all the other “dedicated” runners and start moving my legs and feet all the while cursing under my breath and asking myself “what the Hell was I thinking getting out here for a long run during these temperatures!” It’s contrary to everything my mind and body was telling me this morning when I first felt the cold. Snot turns to ice from it’s normal viscosity in a few seconds. It’s not until I got about a mile into the run and my sunglasses fogged up that I realized my body was starting to heat up and most of the fingers that felt like popsicles had regained feeling. This truly was one of those character-building experiences that I had been missing out on while working out indoors nursing my injured back and weak leg on many of those cold wintry long run mornings.

I attempted and achieved 8 miles total. This was my longest run since I started running again a little more than a week and a half ago. The trot from Belmont to downtown Rockford was pleasant (After warming up) and the sun was out and it was a beautiful morning aside from the cold temperatures. This run gave me hope that the 25k is not out of the question for me. Even though the distance is almost twice what I ran today, I believe I can once more. I have new cause to hope and that’s enough to keep me going. I pray that you have found some hope and encouragement during this rough and cold winter training that keeps you driving for the finish line on May 10th.

Hey Bob.. I am glad to hear that you are back at running:) You can do it!!!!!!! I ran outside this morning as well. I was planning to do 18 and only made 15.. I just could not handle the cold. When does it start to warm up already.. I am not asking for much but above freezing would be nice.
